Julia was always environmentally conscious. She was always making efforts to reduce her carbon footprint. She loved nature and always felt a part of it.

Julia was living with Mike and Wendy, two friends of hers from college. Every time they wasted water or threw cans in the trash, she was there to read them the riot act.

Julia worked at a greenhouse as a helper. It was her job to water the plants every day and she loved it. Sometimes she would talk to the plants as if they were alive.

One day at work, Julia was taking her lunch break when she saw Styrofoam cup filled with a purple liquid sitting on the table. "How wasteful!" Julia pouted. She inspected the cup. It didn't have a name on it. She took a sniff of the liquid. It smelt wonderfully fruity. "Well, it'd be a shame to let this go to waste." She downed the cup quickly. It tasted delicious and, like the smell, very fruity. She chucked the cup in the trash and put a hand to her stomach. Suddenly, she felt very bloated. "Oh well." She said simply and continued on with her day.

Julia felt very good when she got home. "Hey guys!" She said happily as she burst into the kitchen, where Mike was cooking and Wendy was waiting for food. When they turned to look at her, their eyes widened. "Whoa! Julia, what happened to you?" "What are you talking about?" Julia asked naively. "You're green!" "What? That's insane!" She walked over to the mirror and her mouth fell open in shock. She was green. From head to toe. Not only that, she had thick, dark green spots all over her body. She inspected herself in the mirror for quite some time, admiring herself from all sides. "What happened to you?" Wendy asked. "I don't know," Julia said. "But I feel very good!" "Did you eat some bad fruit?" Mike asked. "Well, I had a cup of some sort of juice at lunch, but I'm sure that's nothing." "Nothing? Julia, you're green all over!" ""Oh, who cares? What's for dinner? I'm starving." Mike and Wendy shrugged and returned to cooking.

The next morning was Saturday. Julia woke up and noticed that she was much more bloated then before. Her belly was hanging out of her shirt and over her shorts. Julia rubbed it and felt liquid sloshing around inside her. "That's strange."  She thought nothing more of it and headed down.

When Julia entered the living room, Mike and Wendy were in shock at Julia's new self. "Why are you looking at me like that?" Julia asked oblivious. Mike cleared his throat. "Julia, we called the greenhouse about that juice you said you drank. They said it was an experimental formula extracted from every known fruit." "What's your point?" Julia asked as she fetched a bottle of water. "The point is," Wendy continued. "That juice was not meant for human consumption. It has side effects. Julia, you're turning into a fruit!" "Really?" Julia sat there for a moment. Then: "Cool!" "Cool? Julia this is serious! You need a doctor!" "I need water. I'm parched." She continued to down her water bottle. "We called the greenhouse and they can't come in till Monday." "Well, until then, you're just gonna have to accept the new me. Look, I've always wanted to be a part of nature, now I am. And who knows? Maybe this will inspire you guys to reduce your carbon footprint." Mike threw his hands up in surrender. "You know what? Do what you want."

Julia continued to grow. She was consuming gallons of water an hour. By Sunday, she had bloated to at least two hundred pounds. She barely got through the door to the kitchen. As she stepped, the sound of juice sloshing inside of her could be heard. Mike and Wendy just watched as she transformed. "Julia, why are your clothes wet?" Wendy asked. Julia pressed a hand to her damp shirt. She licked the liquid off of her finger. "Huh. Well, whatdayaknow?  I'm secreting juice." "The greenhouse guys said your body would fill up with it." Mike said casually. "Hey, do we have any fertilizer?" Julia asked. "Why would you want fertilizer?" Wendy asked. "I'm hungry." Julia said simply. "Julia, fertilizer is going to make you blow up like a balloon!" "I know! I want to grow! I want to get bigger!" She seized the box of fertilizer on the windowsill and left.

Monday finally came and the greenhouse guys came to the house. Mike and Wendy led them to the pool where Julia was. Everyone's mouths fell open when they saw her. Julia had downed tow boxes of fertilizer and as a result, her body was massive. She took up the entire pool in size. Juice was leaking out of her firm skin. She had grown roots and dug them underground to soak up as much water as she could. All that remained of her humanity was her head and two monstrous arms. She waved to the greenhouse men. "Hey guys!" Her voice was deep and booming to accommodate her giant body. "My God!" One of the men said. "This is worse than we thought. She's become completely ripe!" "I feel amazing!" Julia said. "And I'm so big too!" "Can you fix her?" Wendy asked. They shook their heads. "If we had gotten to her sooner, we could've. Now that she's ripe, she'll remain a fruit for the rest of her life." "Fine by me!" Julia boomed.

The men relocated the Julia-fruit to her very own, custom built greenhouse. It was massive to accommodate her body and big enough to allow her to grow. The men regularly watered Julia every day. Fertilizer became her crack. Whenever she got her vines on it, she'd grow to monstrous proportions. Her roots spread far and wide underground. She became one of the biggest fruits in the world, clocking in at five tons. Her juice was harvested and bottled for further experiments. Mike and Wendy visited her often. As for Julia, she was finally one with nature. She became the happiest, ripest fruit in the world.
I just came up with this idea today and had to write it down. Enjoy!
